The Story
Der Club Bertelsmann is one of the biggest book- and media-clubs in the world with roughly 3 million members. Der Club offers its customers an extremely wide product range. Book addicts find a wide choice of premium novels, novellas and children’s books. Additional offers from the scope of video, DVD and games as well as numerous products from the world of photography complete the program. An increasingly important value can be allocated to the travel sector.Hence, hmmh multimediahaus AG obtained the brief to create a new platform especially for travel services.
The Challenge
The main target group of “Der Club Reisen” are Best Ager. The implementation of optimal user navigation, specifically tailored on the customer group, made up the centre of attention. Up to now the travel service was only integrated in the shop as a tab. hmmh has now developed and graphically implemented a completely new e-commerce platform for the travel sector: www.derclub-reisen.de.

hmmh developed a completely new shop surface including a sophisticated navigation concept. The appealing interface is created on the technical fundament of an external provider.hmmh brings forward the discreet but at the same time stringent colour system of the print catalogues “Reiseträume” to the website. The colour system structured the travels into six different travel types. The consistent colour scheme of website and catalogue intensifies the crossmedial aspect. The travel-finder on the home page reverts to these different travel types as well and combines them clearly arranged with a destination search. A tastier appetiser for waverer: in the viewport of the home page emotional flash teaser and appealing category teaser are presenting different travels from the program. That makes you feel like travelling.
The whole web presence is, with regards to optimal user navigation, limited to a handful of types of sites. However, the offer behind it is strongly scalable. The content will be permanently extended.
In a panel test of a usability lab in Hamburg, the platform gained very good results. All probands evaluated the consistent picture language and the emotional interpretation of the topic travelling as very successful. The clearly sophisticated and well arranged site navigation convinced the participators.
