Niklas Barning introduces himself in his first blog:

Hi,

my name is Niklas Barning, I’m 22, in my second training year at hmmh and apparently what is referred to today as a “digital native”.

At the age of 5 I gained my first experience with computers, caught the final throes of MS-DOS, struggled through the Internet at 32 kb/s and landed in digital art, photomanipulation, podcasts, film and Web design in 2005. On the side I networked, like other teenagers, via chat protocols, forums and later social networks, such as SchülerVZ, Twitter and Facebook.

During the final examination phase at school I not only designed various flyers for my class’s end-of-school parties, but also noticed the friction between the offline and the online society in my social science courses. So I started taking an interest in Web design as well as in the “digital society” and “Web policy”.

I was thus optimally prepared for my training as a “Media Designer for Digital and Print” at hmmh. Not only in terms of the design aspects since I also have a great interest in the issues of concern for the German Internet scene. Whether it be new social networks, new products from Apple, Web policy or simply cute cat pictures.

I was taken on by an agency that has not lost any of its appeal in spite of its size. For me hmmh is not only a company providing vocational training, but also a place where you can have fun and gain experience. I like the media designer training very much because you look for and design creative solutions for your tasks almost on a daily basis and receive support on your way to the finished product without being restricted.

What will people now read from me here? I will report on attractive design, good campaigns and sights of interest from the Web. No matter whether it is a new startup from Hamburg, “QUOTE.fm” or a new presentation of the touch user interface of Windows 8. I want to inform you and at the same time represent the opinion of a media designer who is undergoing training and is new in the sector.
