Record thanks to e-commerce

2011 saw hmmh multimediahaus experience its strongest financial year since the company’s founding. The Bremen-based agency which specialises in e-commerce and digital brand communication, recorded 25 percent growth, with a turnover of 21.6 million Euros.

“The growth in the e-commerce industry is not expected to end any time within the next ten years”, says Managing Director Björn Portillo when presenting the annual balance sheet. The agency is growing both through existing customers and through new customers, such as Praktiker and Gerry Weber. “Mobile Commerce, Social Commerce and Online Marketing will generate additional turnover over the next few years”, Portillo continues. hmmh is also experimenting with new and innovative channels. More of a concern is the shortage of specialists: “We‘ve slowly reached the growth limit in Bremen. More activities may take place further south in 2013.”

Interview: “Gearing towards moving images”

Mr Portillo, the agency’s sales turnover is growing. But what about the profit?

"Growth is not an end in itself. We’ve been growing profitably for many years, helped by our position as a specialist in Digital Commerce & Brand Communication."

But you constantly have to invest in new technology and staff.

"We’re doing that. In recent years, for example, we created our own editorial office responsible for social media profiles. Another trending area where we’re currently investing in resources and technology is TV-based e-commerce. We’re fully gearing towards moving images here.“

Sounds like Home Shopping TV.

"There are different approaches; we‘re currently in talks with possible customers.”
